As a British guy who went to a Catholic boys school many years ago, I more or less gave up on religion in my early to mid teens amd never went back nor do I have an real intention of doing so. Living in a largely secular society it's hard to imagine the problems of coming out as an athiest in small town Bible Belt America in this day and age.I think it's great there is an online community of like minded people - you have my full support and best wishes and I respect your courage.

This guy makes of lot of inferences from a single event. I am far from a Biblical scholar but I think relying on one assumption to interpret the significance of Jesus is pretty ...illogical. Mankind and God had a disconnect ...the Garden of Eden story indicates this. Jesus re-established that connection. Jesus consistently "healed" people by telling them their "sins were forgiven". This indicated that to God, the sin is our important sickness, not the physical injury. Certainly Jesus could forgive sin in his worldly form ....but he seemed to have either limits or a very strict defined purpose in this human form. He commented to his mother at the wedding as she urged him to turn water to wine to save the celebration that "Its not yet my time". He commented as the lady touched him in the street that "He felt power go out of him" as she touched his garment. Effectively Jesus gave people cups of water while on earth. In his death, his total sacrifice to reconnect the world with God, he effectively dug a well where any who where thirsty could get water if they desired it. He did not put strings on it. He did not require you pay for it or perform acts or services to "earn" it. He created it and simply pointed the way to it. You may choose to drink or not. No God was not worried about a few years under an oppressive empire. Jesus impact far outlasted that Romans. God has a much different time frame that humans have. The people's messiah was a small warrior to fix an immediate short term problem. Gods Messiah was a warrior to fix their enduring souls.

Literally snapped off at the ball joint. It happened around 10:00 AM. By 8:00 PM that same day I had a total hip replacement operation. Then spent 6 weeks in physio rehab before I was allowed to go home. Then spent another two months attending out patient twice a week for pool therapy and using a variety of devices for physical therapy. Cost to me? ZERO. Cost of EMS vehicle to get me to hospital emergency? $24. I just don't understand the American way. Sure my taxes are a trifle higher, but the system benefits EVERYONE. Bernie Sanders got it right.
